FROM ITALY TO ENGLAND

JUST FOR A LITTLE WHILE...

Born and raised in Caserta, a vibrant city between Naples and Rome - came to the UK in 1998 to study English In 2002, I decided to move here “just for a year or two” … but more than 20 years later, I’m still here!

Q&A FUN TO TELL MY STORY

Q: Erika, where did your story begin?
I was born and raised in Caserta, a vibrant city between Naples and Rome. It’s a place full of life, colour, and style. Growing up there shaped my love for clothes – not just the quality, but the way classic pieces can be combined with trend-led ones to create something truly individual.

Q: You started modelling quite young – tell us about that.
At 16, I was scouted by a modelling agency. I did a photo shoot and loved it – it was fun and the pay wasn’t bad either! That led to more work, modelling wedding dresses of all things! It was exciting and gave me an early understanding of how clothes can transform the way you feel.

Q: How did you end up in the UK?
I first came to the UK in 1998 to study English and I instantly felt at home. In 2002, I decided to move here “just for a year or two” … but more than 20 years later, I’m still here! Life took its own course and I’ve built a beautiful life with my family in a lovely part of Hampshire.

Q: What inspired you to create Solo Mia?
I really missed the boutique shopping culture of Italy – where shopping felt very personal, joyful and social. I wanted to bring that experience to the UK. So, in 2017, I booked my first buying trip to Italy and returned with a small collection. A mini shopping event in a friend’s kitchen marked the beginning of Solo Mia.

Q: How would you describe Solo Mia today?
It’s grown into something far bigger than I ever imagined. For me, Solo Mia is so much more than just clothes. Making women more confident is what makes me happy. I’ve always believed fashion should work for your real life, not just special occasions. So, I choose easy, versatile pieces that you can mix and match in a capsule wardrobe – things that help you feel like the best version of yourself.

Q: What makes Solo Mia different?
Unlike larger fashion brands, everything is handpicked in small quantities by me. You’re unlikely to see someone else wearing the same thing. I want every piece to feel like it was meant for you, whether you've been shopping at our showroom, online, or attending a Solo Mia event. If you come to the showroom, you’ll always get a warm welcome and honest advice from me.

Q: What’s been your proudest moment so far?
Building a community. Through Solo Mia, I’ve met the most incredible women – from stay-at-home mums to CEOs. All of them inspiring in their own way. Solo Mia brings people together, and that’s what I’m most proud of.

Q: You’ve also supported some amazing causes – was that always part of the plan?
Yes. I’ve always felt strongly about giving back. Over the years, we’ve hosted charity fashion shows and fundraising events and raised thousands of pounds for local causes. It means a lot to me to contribute to the community that has supported Solo Mia from day one.

Q: And finally, what’s next?
Our new showroom at Pitt Hall Barn was a big step. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous – growing a business on my own as a single mum. It’s taken a lot of hard work and hasn’t been easy. But this is about offering more choice, more style and a better in person experience – without losing that personal touch. I can’t wait to see where this next chapter takes us.

I’m looking forward to continuing this journey with all my lovely customers.
